Four-Song Music Video Set | Ross Thorn

Introduction

Four songs, one room

Four music videos is normally four productions, which is not a budget a working folk musician has lying around. So we did the sensible thing and built all four in one location, planned as a set from the start. The visuals stay simple on purpose. Not because of the budget, but because these are songs that carry themselves. A folk song is a story being told, and if the video is doing tricks the story is competing for attention with the camera. Gimbal work for movement, clean framing, and then get out of the way. That's an easy principle to state and a hard one to hold to, because there's always a temptation to justify your presence by doing more. The discipline is doing less and trusting the song.

Four videos, one shoot day

Ross came out with four finished music videos from a single location day, which is what makes a set like this possible for an independent musician at all. Keeping the visuals restrained means they still feel like a body of work rather than four attempts at the same idea.
