Upskilling Program Film | gener8tor
Four partners, one story
Upskilling is a free technical training program for job seekers, backed by gener8tor alongside Microsoft, New North, and the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation. Four organizations behind one program, which is a structural problem for a film before it's a creative one. Everybody needs to see themselves in it and nobody can dominate it. The way out is keeping the program at the center rather than the partners. The story is a person who needs a different job and a path to getting one. Everything else is scaffolding around that. We shot interviews and b-roll across multiple locations and worked with actors for some of the b-roll, which is the honest way to depict a job search without putting real people's employment situations on camera.
Who is
gener8tor Upskilling
gener8tor Upskilling runs virtual technical training for job seekers going after in-demand roles, focused on rebuilding confidence as much as teaching skills. The program is supported by gener8tor with Microsoft, New North, and the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation.

A program people could see themselves in
The film gives Upskilling something that speaks directly to a job seeker rather than reading as an institutional announcement from four organizations, which is the difference between awareness and enrollment. Keeping the partners as backing rather than subject is what kept it watchable.
