Production Support | Gates Notes
Sometimes you're not the lead
Being straight about this one: we didn't direct it. Cinematographer Stebs Schinnerer led the piece, and we came on as assistant camera and on-location support, handling transport and whatever else the day needed. That's a real part of this business and it's worth showing. Not every good project is one where your name goes on top. Supporting a strong cinematographer on a demanding shoot teaches you things about how other people work that you cannot learn running your own set, and being useful in that role is its own skill. The piece itself was about energy storage, specifically the companies chasing the problem of what to do with wind and solar power when the wind stops and the sun goes down. Good subject to be a small part of.

A good crew to be on
The film went out through Gates Notes to its audience, and we came away having supported a cinematographer working at a level that raises everyone around them. Worth listing precisely because it isn't ours, since knowing when to take the support role is part of the job.
