PLN8 Podcast Promo
Introduction

Animating for people who make maps

Stamen is a data visualization and cartography studio, which makes them roughly the most demanding possible audience for a piece of motion design. These are people who think professionally about how visual information should behave. You cannot hand them generic animated shapes. So the promo is fully animated, built to sit inside their visual world rather than next to it. Podcast promos usually default to a waveform and some kerned type. That would have been fine and also would have said nothing about who was making the show. No live footage at all on this one, which is unusual for us and was correct here. When the client's entire practice is visual abstraction, the promo should be too.

Sounds like the studio looks

Stamen got a launch promo that reads as an extension of their own design practice instead of a generic podcast announcement, which matters more than usual when the audience is other designers. Fully animated meant it could be built entirely around their visual language.
