Three cities, one live stream
Premiere night is normally three separate in-person events in Madison, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis. In 2020 it was none of them. So the whole thing collapsed into a single virtual production and we live streamed it out across multiple platforms. Live is a different animal from everything else we do. There's no post. Whatever happens, happens, in front of everyone, and the number of things that can go wrong during a multi-hour broadcast with dozens of remote participants is genuinely alarming if you think about it too long. So you build for failure. Redundancy on the stream, contingencies for the segments, and a run of show tight enough that a dropped connection doesn't take the night down with it. We produced it, edited the packaged pieces, and ran the stream.

Over 500 watching at once
The stream held more than 500 concurrent viewers across platforms, which is a bigger room than any of the three in-person events would have filled individually. Consolidating three cities into one broadcast turned a cancellation into a wider audience.
